Towering, cone shaped Arenal Volcano often rewards visitors with impressive natural fireworks displays and voluminous plumes of smoke that rise hundreds of feet into the air. At night, if it is not cloudy, the show is even more stupendous as the mammoth volcano spews red lava and huge incandescent rocks glowing against the black sky.

Visitors will discover pure pleasure at Tabacon Hot Springs, nestled amid the lush tropical vegetation at the base of Arenal Volcano. The Tabacon River emanates from deep within the heart of the volcano, and its naturally heated waters spring forth at about 102 F year round. The thermal waters cascade through beautiful gardens creating inviting falls and pools of warm, soothing water that soak away every aching muscle.

This tour to Arenal Volcano and Tabacon Hot Springs begins in the late morning when guests are picked up from their San Jose hotel in a comfortable minibus and driven through the Central Valley, then northwest through rolling coffee plantations and farmlands to the Arenal Volcano region.

You may spend a leisurely afternoon at Tabacon Hot Springs, splashing around in more than a dozen pools and sampling cocktails at the swim-up bar. Landscaped gardens stretch out in every direction and merge into the surrounding tropical rain forest. The glowing peak of Arenal Volcano towers above.

For additional pampering, the spa at Tabacon offers facials, volcanic mud treatments and therapeutic massage. By the time visitors return to San Jose in the late evening, they will feel utterly relaxed and without a worry in the world.
