DAY 1:

San Jose – Arrival in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. Check into your hotel. Arrival briefing.

DAY 2:

Tortuguero – From San Jose, we drive through the spectacular cloudforest in the Braulio Carrillo National Park. We continue on a riverboat journey, which will take us to our lodge in Tortuguero National Park. This research park, which is one of the most exotic regions in the world, is also home to the most important green seaturtle nesting ground in the Western Caribbean. All three meals are included while in Tortuguero.

DAY 3:

Tortuguero – Today we explore the marvelous Tortuguero National Park. Hiking and boat trips are included. We ride through the system of natural and manmade canals to get a closer look at the diverse wildlife.

DAY 4:

Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge – We depart Tortuguero via riverboat and head south towards the Panama border. In the afternoon we’ll soak up the sun on the tropical beaches of the Caribbean coast at Manzanillo.

DAY 5:

Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge – We may visit one of the nearby coral reefs or enjoy the day hiking or horseback riding to the waterfalls. Relax and sleep in your hotel among the exotic sounds and scents of the rain forest.

DAY 6:

Sarapiqui – We enjoy a final morning in Manzanillo, then we drive inland towards a quaint hotel in La Virgen de Sarapiqui. At this location we may visit a butterfly garden, agricultural garden, or one of the best insect museums in the country.

DAY 7:

Sarapiqui – We may choose between a river boat cruise on the Sarapiqui river or a visit to an Archeological Park where we will learn about the indian heritage of the country. We continue on to the Arenal Volcano region.

DAY 8:

Arenal Region – We visit the many caves that make up the labyrinth of the Venado Caverns. After this exciting tour we will go to Tabacon Hot Springs near the base of the Arenal Volcano. We get a chance to relax at the thermal waters while listening to the rumbling of the volcano; and on a clear night, we will admire the sight of the lava rolling down the sides of this breathtaking volcano.
